Go Fast and Quick !
We bought SUP race
boards this summer and are looking to get into the NJ and mid-atlantic
race scene more next year. This link below is a great read for those of
you are thinking of getting into SUP racing or have just started to
race.
This summer I raced in the Shore Smoothie 6 miler in
Bradley Beach. The conditions were a little choppy with a good wind out
of the south east. I finished in 1:12:03 and came in first for the
19-39 age division on 12"6's. My Outlaw was backordered so I borrowed
my friends Raven and it paddled pretty well.
Last weekend I
finally got the chance to race the Outlaw in the Monmouth County Parks
Timberbrook Triathlon. The race starts out with a 3 mile run and then a
paddling race which can be done with a teammate in a canoe, kayak or
solo and this year SUP. The last section is a five mile bike coming into
the finish.
The Outlaw performed great in the slight chop
and allowed me to catch the two paddlers out in front of me. I paddled
with my running shoes on and made up over 45 seconds during the paddle
and the transition to get out in front and never lose the lead to finish
in 1:09:01.
Our boards are from Rogue. I'm paddling the 12'6 Outlaw and Janet is on the 12'6 touring/race Diva.
The
Outlaw is a quick 28 inches wide that took me a bit to get used to but
now I love it. Janet chose the wider 31 inch wade board to be
comfortable in the chop.
